Bouncing back from a lost opportunity the night before, the Greybull Buffs ruled the court against the  Burlington Huskies in Varsity Boys Basketball action January 7.

After losing to Lovell 39-55, the Greybull boys came back Saturday afternoon to  play the way they knew they could beating Burlington 74-65.

“The team played with a greater sense of urgency than we did the night before at Lovell. I thought we did a nice job of dictating the tempo of the game on offense and defense. With the win, we were able to sweep the season series with Burlington; that is a hard thing to do, so the boys should be proud of that,” said Coach Jim Prather.

Every victory starts with a game plan.

“Our game strategy always begins with effort. We did not have that on Friday, so I was very happy to see the team play with the type of aggressiveness that we expect from Buff basketball players on Saturday against Burlington. We always try to control the tempo at which the game will be played. Against Burlington, we wanted it to be a fast-paced game. For the most part it was,” said Coach Prather.

In the game against Burlington several athletes stepped up their play.

“Neil Getzfreid showed good patience on offense and finished his shots around the rim and hit his free throws. Travis Sylvester played a great floor game, he got the team good shots and as a result we shot over 50% from field as a team which is very good,” said Coach Prather.

The Buffs stepped up as team as well, playing strong defense and offensively flexing their muscles.

“We caused some turnovers with our press on defense which led to some easy baskets for us. Our scoring was balanced, we had four players in double figures, so it made us harder to guard. We shot free throws well, especially in the second half, and were able to control the game as a result,” said Coach Prather.

High point man for the second was a sophomore,  Kason Clutter with 21 points, Neil Getzfried (SR) with 14 points, Travis Sylvester (SR)  and Austin Frazier (SR)  added 12 and 11 points respectively.

Looking ahead to tournament time, Coach Prather is optimistic.

“We are about half-way through the season, and I feel the team is improving each week. We have actually played very few games so far with all of our players healthy and eligible. If we have all of our pieces in place, I believe the Buffs will be a tough team to play in the coming weeks,” said coach Prather.
